Career Exploration Project
For this project, you will be required to investigate potential careers, write a 1-2 page paper that details at lest three careers you researched.
For the beginning of this project, you will investigate your own personality. After you have completed a couple of these surveys, the first part of your paper will be to describe your findings. What is your personality type? What does that mean? Do you agree with this assessment? What jobs are associated to this personality type? Are there three jobs that you find interesting in this list, that perhaps you hadn't thought about before?
Begin by completing the Myers-Briggs Typology Test after clicking this link. It is online, and will score your test for you. Once you've completed this, you will be given a 4 letter personality type. We will discuss what these letters mean, but for now, you can look up your type and see what it means about you.
After you have read the information, write a paragraph that:
1. Describes what you found out about your type. Is it you? Do you agree? Are there any examples?
2. What jobs are associated with this type? Are there three that would interest you?

Shakespeare Recitation Contest
You will be choosing a monologue to memorize for this class. To do so, you will first begin by reading through the monologues below and choosing one that best represents your style. You will need to read the monologue, and learn all that you can about it. What is the monologue or sonnet about? What is the surrounding situation that relates to the topic? When did Shakespeare write this sonnet or monologue? How does the history of the time reflect in the work? Is the history represented? All of these questions will need to be answered.
Begin by researching which monologue you would like to memorize. The monologues begin on page 11 of the following attachment:

Goal Setting Worksheet
As we begin each semester, it is important to reflect on our school experience and make some goals for the future. The attached worksheet will help you to do that. You will be responsible for completing this worksheet and turning in to your instructor. Periodically, you will be able to revisit your goal setting sheet to determine if you are staying on track. This is your class, and your opportunity to make something of it.
The Three Questions by Leo Tolstoy
The Three Questions by Tolstoy is a great way to begin the semester. Tolstoy asks you to answer three important questions. In answering these three questions, you make three major assumptions about life and its importance. Interestingly, Tolstoy wrote this story to raise funds for victims of anti-Jewish pogrom in Kishinev, Poland. See if you come up with the same answers to the questions...

I Never Saw Another Butterfly...
This book is a compilation of the poetry and drawings from children during the holocaust. The majority of the work comes from the Terezin (Thereseinstadt) Concentration Camp. Terezin was a camp located in the Czech Republic. It was set up by Hitler to "protect" the Jews from the war, and he created propaganda films to demonstrate. He named Terezin after his aunt Theresa. Many individuals who started in Terezin ended up in Auschwitz, one of the most infamous concentration camps of the Nazi occupations. Of the many Czech citizens brought to the camp, 97,297 died. About 15,000 of those individuals were children. Only 132 children brought to Terezin were known to have survived.

Hitler Imagery
Check out the image above. Look closely at the details, and write what you think the artist meant to depict. What do you notice about the image? This image is from 1938. What do you know about what ultimately happens? How accurate is this image? What feelings/emotions does it conjure for you?
